What is lip blush? Lip blush is a semi-permanent makeup technique for the lips that enhances the beauty of the natural shape and colour, making the lips appear fuller and more youthful. Lip blush can give the illusion of fuller lips without having filler.
How is it done? This technique is created with a tattoo machine similarly to a traditional tattoo, however pixelated dots are tattooed into the epidermis to create a semi permanent pixelated effect. These small dots allow colour to gradually build up to reveal a more natural looking result.
How long does it take? I book out 2-3 hours, for top ups 1-2 hours.
Can I choose the colour? You can choose from a variety of shades of nudes/pinks/oranges/browns/reds. Some clients will bring their favourite lipstick colour in to colour match.
Durability? This technique can typically last anywhere from 1 to 3 years. The retention will depend on a number of factors, such as lifestyle, skin type, sun exposure, health conditions, medications etc. A colour boost is recommended every 12-18 months to enhance the colour.
Is it painful? Pain is relative, the treatment is said to be uncomfortable but bearable. During the procedure, I will try to help relieve any pain and discomfort the best I can.
Will I need a patch test? Yes, a patch test is required 48 hours before your appointment. This is arranged upon booking in.
Will I need a top up? Yes absolutely! The treatment is conducted in two parts, the initial treatment and the top up. Without the top up the area may appear patchy and unfinished. The 4-8 week top up is included is £50. The top up cannot be performed earlier than 4 weeks after the initial treatment as we need to wait for the area to fully heal before making any adjustments. Some individuals may require further top ups due to lifestyle, skin type, poor aftercare and other factors. I myself as the artist am not responsible for poor pigment retention or poor aftercare and these actions will result in needing further top ups.
What are the risks? If you find a highly skilled and knowledgeable practitioner who is aware of your skin type and medical history, then having any type of semi-permanent makeup treatment should be a safe process. You should always do your research and choose the right practitioner for your needs. You yourself are also responsible for looking after your new lips and following the after care.
Do you do correction work? There is no definitive answer as to whether I can offer a cover up as this is dependent on the shape, colour and positioning of the previous work. If you have badly-performed semi-permanent makeup, you may need to opt for a removal procedure first. Please contact me to arrange a consultation.
How long does it last? 2-5 years depending on how well your lips hold the colour. How long depends on different factors such as your lifestyle, frequent touch ups, and how you care for them. To maintain the look touch ups are required yearly. After your first initial appointment, a touch up more likely will be needed 4-6 weeks later.
How long will it take for my lips to heal? Swelling, bruising, minor bleeding and tenderness are all completely normal after your treatment. The healing process will cause the lips to go dry and scab, this is also normal. Your lips heal very quickly and these symptoms should pass after 7 days.
How do I prepare for the appointment? Do not consume caffeine and alcohol for 24 hours prior to your appointment to prevent excessive pain and bleeding, do not take Advil or other blood thinners such as aspirin, ibroufen unless medically necessary, avoid exercising the day of the procedure, do not take or get any chemical peels, laser skin resurfacing, vitamin E, retinol, fish oil at least 4 weeks before your appointment, do not get lip injections 4 weeks after this treatment.
What is the aftercare? The intensity and brightness should regress within 3-4 days. The sensation can be comparable to that of a slight burn and minimal scabbing and/or flaking may take place.
Refrain from removing the scabs/flakes as you may run the risk of removing pigment in the process - it’s very important to keep the lips heavily hydrated. The true vibrancy of your cosmetic tattoo will fade over a couple of weeks about 50-70% from what you walked out with revealing a soft and natural blush tone.
During the first few days/first week... apply your aftercare cream as often as needed (usually 1-3 times a day). No kissing, rubbing or touching the area. Drink through a straw. Wash lips after each meal and cut meal into small bite size pieces. Avoid heavily seasoned and spicy foods.
The following must be avoided during all 14 days post treatment:
-
Increased sweating
-
Practicing sports
-
Swimming
-
Hot sauna, hot bath, or Jacuzzi
-
Sun tanning or salon tanning
-
Exposure to UV/UVA Rays or chemicals as they have been known to cause a shift in color and premature fading

-
Touching of the treatment area except for when applying the post-care ointment with a cotton swab
